Update / Update

Un dimanche soir a khartoum... une connection internet qui fonctionne et un creneau horaire indecent apres un meeting de 10 heures aujourd'hui. et voila c'est update. J'ai forcement rate plein de details. mais au moins les photos sont la !
Et oui, c'est un vrai job l'humanitaire... en fait on travaille pas mal ;-) pour ceux qui croyaient que j'etais en vacances en afrique !

A sunday night in Khartoum... a connection that actually is working > 33kilobites /hour, and a completely not decent hour to work after a 10 hour meeting. But it is updated ! just downloaded about 4 months of my life in the blog. details may not be super detailed... but at least we have the pictures !
And yes, I actually work a lot... for those who thought humanitarian work was like vacations in Africa !

They did the henne thing. they cover the hand with mud mix. And after a while... a few dances (like for 1 hour +) they will remove the mud, and the hand is turning in the yellowish/brown.

Les filles du bureau avaient amene de quoi faire du henne. Elles couvrent la main de boue. et apres quelques dances... (de 1 heure +) elles enlevent la boue pour rendre la main entre le jaune / orange / marron.

Moving to North darfur. Elfasher. Ma first requested action was to hold an HR meeting in the Nutrition center for HR stuff. The TFC is a center that is taking care of severly malnourished children.

Nyala, Sud Darfour: Le camp d'A Salam.
Nyala, South Darfur: A Salam camp.

First step in Darfur started in the south. Nyala is the capital city of the south darfur. Has a town surrounded by IDP camps. INGO's share the aid brought to the population, we work in a few of those camps in different sector.
One of the camp is A-salam.



Premiere etape etait au sud darfour. Nyala est la capitale d'une ville entouree de camp de personne deplacees. Les ONG se partagent l'aide apportee. ACF travaille dans differents camps.
A Salam est l'un d'entre eux.

Les gens habitent dans des habitations extrement precaire, le camp etant tres recent. tentes, couvertures plastic. les camps etablis depuis plus longtems auront des habitations plus solides. Avec des murs qui separent des voisins.

People typically arrived recently in this camp. Families live in tents, plastic sheetings, and other precaire constructions. Camp setlled for longer may have a little more built structures. house have walls to separate from the next door displaced family.

Many of us reached 1 year of mission in Sudan towards June. Maria, HR coordinator, Vincent, water and sanitation coordinator, Edith, Assistant Head of Mission, Severine, Nutrition coordination, and me.

Basically, all of the others left the country for better places... and I moved to Darfur. I took the position of coordo administrator Darfur. Sounds exciting - hein? The promotion was announced clearly - Anne laure, nobody accepted the position in Paris, therefore congratulation, you are choice number 6 ! Anyway, I moved to Elfasher, North darfur. and I am responsible for Finance and HR for both south darfur and north darfur programs. (and you read properly, i am actually doing some HR... don't laugh)

Pas mal d'entre nous avaient complete un an de mission aux alentours de juin. Maria, coordinatrice RH, Vincent, sanitation des eaux, Edith, assistante chef de mission, et Severine, nutritioniste, et moi.

Tout ce petit monde a quitte le pays, sauf moi, qui suis restee sur le soudan, j'ai change de poste et je suis devenue coordinatrice admin sur le darfour. J'ai demenage a Elfasher, dans le nord darfour. Et je suis responsable de la partie finance et ressource humaines pour le nord et le sud darfour. (et oui, vous avez bien lu... RH aussi, on ne rigole pas !)

Donc soiree de depart en bonne et due forme.

Et j'ai egalement herite d'un habit gout local... superbe robe traditionelle. On a eu besoin de quelque mains agiles pour enfiler le chose... mais finalement j'etais bien empaquete.
And i also received a traditional wear. Superbe local dress. We did need few hands to put the thing on. But I ended up looking pretty good...

Petit interlude dans mes anecdotes soudanaise. Mon frere Benoit s'est fiance ! avec une demoiselle Celine.

J'ai voulu organiser une arrivee surprise... ca a pas tres bien marche. Est ce que mes chers freres et soeurs ne sont plus surpris de me voir debarquer de l'autre bout du monde pour les moments importants, ou est ce que papa a oublie de me decompter dans la liste des invites quand il faisait le recapitulatif avec Benoit au telephone... L'effet surprise a ete biaise ;-)

J'avais amene ma parure soudanaise bien sur. Ekhlass, quelqu'un de mon equipe a khartoum avaist pris soin de me pourvoir de tous les accessoires ... incluant le bracelet avec des pendentifs cacahuete en plastique, bien sur.






Little pause in the middle of the sudanese little saga. My brother Benoit got engaged !! with a miss Celine.

I wanted to organize a surprise arrival... did not work that well. whether it is just that my siblings are now not anymore surprised to see me show up from the other end of the planet, or is it just Dad who forgot to count me out when he did the status of invitees with the fiances... the surprise effect got spoiled. anyway... the weekend was fantastic.

Ekhlass had gotten me all accessories that were required for such an event... including the bracelet with plastic peanuts attached, of course.

Et bien sur le temps en france etait superbe.

And of course the weather was fantastic !

Visit in Khartoum

Visite a Khartoum.

Bilal est notre chauffeur khartoum... et je suis allee rendre une visite. il m'ont gavee de bonbons locaux... on peu pas refuser. mais j'ai surtout rencontrer le nouveau ne de la famille.

Bilal is one of our driver in Khartoum... and i was invited at home. They gave me plenty of those locally made candies that you can not refuse. But i essentially got to meet the last one of the family.

And then we went to something called Sufis. that is basically some dances that are organized on Fridays in religious places. people gather and dance in cercles. it is somehow tribal in a north sudan... not very clear yet to me which religious groups organize these things...

Et puis nous sommes alles dans ce qu'on appelle Sufis. C'est des rassemblements de gens qui dansent en cercle, typicallement organises le vendredi. Ca a un caractere religieux, un peu tribal dans un pays musulman, donc je ne suis pas tres sure de quel groupe religieux il s'agit...

Piscine.
Swimming pool.

Sometimes in April / June period, Sudan gets very hot... and we do go a little crazy. And one of us mentionned that he would really like a swimming pool. Because we do work on expat motivation... we have 1) identified a shop that actually sells swimming pool 2) purchased the thing 3) blew it !!

Des fois en April / juin... Il fait vraiment chaud ici. and certains d'entre nous sont plus sensibles a la chaleur... et font des fixations. Quand meme on s'occupe des expats, et donc on a fait un petit effort pour 1) identifier une piscine gonflable dans Khartoum 2) acheter l'engin 3) gonfler la piscine sans pompe, un soir, au lieu de lire un bouquin ;-)
